Boxing, which mainly involves two people or ‘boxers’ who are of similar height, weight, and stature fighting with their fists, is one of the most popular sports in the world, with millions of fans worldwide. This sport is supervised by a referee who begins the game by reminding both players about fair play and sportsmanship. He is also the one that ensures that the rules are strictly followed. In fact, a popular phrase, ‘no hitting below the belt’, comes from the world of boxing. It refers to an important rule which both boxers must follow lest they receive a reprimand from the referee. The referee is also in charge of declaring the winner in a case of a knock out or a technical knock out. A knock out is declared when the opponent is unable to get up after being knocked down when the referee counts to ten. A technical KO is declared when the opponent is considered to be too injured to continue fighting. In the event that there is no KO, the fight stops after the maximum number of rounds agreed upon is reached. In that case, then it is up to the panel of judges to tally the scores on their scoreboards and declare the final winner. In professional boxing, there are different categories wherein the competitors have to complete a certain number of requirements before being qualified. The qualification is mostly based on weight. In fact, these categories are called divisions and some of the available divisions include ‘light-weight division’, ‘feather-weight division’, ‘heavy weight division’, and ‘fly-weight.
